Sharp Decline in Retail Crime as Shoplifting Drops 26.7% in Broxbourne

In June 2026, the Borough of Broxbourne recorded a total of 1,268 crimes, representing an increase of 50 incidents compared to 1,218 crimes in May 2026. Despite the overall increase, the period was marked by a sharp decline in retail crime, marked by a 26.7% drop in shoplifting incidents from 120 down to 88. Other crime categories that saw a numerical decrease from May 2026 to June 2026 include drugs (decreasing from 43 to 42), public order (from 79 to 78), possession of weapons (from 9 to 7), and other crime (from 22 to 15). Conversely, several crime categories saw numerical increases in June 2026 compared to May 2026. Violent crime increased by 31 incidents from 373 to 404, vehicle crime rose by 21 from 77 to 98, and other theft grew by 14 from 92 to 106. Additional increases were recorded in anti-social behaviour (from 272 to 280), robbery (from 17 to 23), theft from the person (from 8 to 14), criminal damage and arson (from 65 to 69), burglary (from 36 to 38), and bicycle theft (from 5 to 6).
