Cambridge Crime Report June 2026: Rise in Bicycle Theft and Shoplifting Offenses

In June 2026, total recorded crime in Cambridge city reached 1,472 cases, representing an increase of 123 incidents compared to May 2026, which recorded 1,349 cases. Acquisitive property theft recorded notable increases in June 2026. Bicycle theft experienced a 30.3% increase, rising from 89 cases in May to 116 cases in June. Shoplifting offenses were the highest volume property crime in June at 232 incidents, up from 219 cases in May. Other theft categories showed varied changes: other theft increased by 14 cases from 76 to 90, burglary increased by 5 cases from 26 to 31, and vehicle crime increased by 5 cases from 53 to 58. Conversely, theft from the person decreased by 10 cases, from 27 in May to 17 in June. Among other crime categories, violent crime decreased by 1 incident from 407 to 406. Anti-social behaviour increased from 214 to 226, criminal damage and arson increased from 75 to 95, public order increased from 69 to 90, drug offenses increased from 31 to 37, robbery increased from 22 to 25, possession of weapons increased from 16 to 17, and other crime increased from 25 to 32.
